I had the chance to visit IYRS a while back and decided as soon as I walked in the door that I wanted to come back and film. This place is full of amazing visuals! Wooden boats have a warmth and intangible charm that is tough to match by anything else. I wish I could have spent more time there. The staff was amazing and the students were super accommodating. This could have something to do with the fact that film crews apparently show up quite frequently at the school, but before I start rambling, I present to you the IYRS Mini-Doc:
International Yacht Restoration School – Newport, RI from Axion Media Lab on Vimeo.
This Mini-Doc, like many of Axion’s others, was shot in one day. We invested in some new gear before this shoot though. Audio saw the biggest upgrade with the purchase of a Sound Devices T702 which is a SUPERB field audio recorder. The clarity and tone is just unmatched. I think a gear rundown post will be in order, along with individual bios of all those involved our media collective.
